Advertising Policy

The Asian Journal of Information Science and Technology (AJIST) maintains a transparent scholarly journal advertising policy designed to protect editorial independence and reader trust. AJIST does not currently publish or display commercial advertisements. The journal’s scholarly content, peer-review process, editorial assessment, and publication decisions remain independent of advertising, sponsorship, marketing, or other promotional considerations. General information about the journal is available in the AJIST Journal Overview.

1. Current Advertising Practice

AJIST does not currently accept commercial advertising on the journal website, within published articles, or as part of the journal’s editorial content. The journal therefore does not currently use advertiser-directed behavioural targeting, paid product placement, sponsored editorial positioning, or advertising linked to individual articles.

2. Editorial Independence

Advertising or advertising revenue, if introduced in the future, will not influence manuscript screening, reviewer selection, double-blind peer review, acceptance, rejection, correction, retraction, or any other editorial decision. Editorial decisions are based on scholarly merit, relevance, originality, quality, and compliance with AJIST policies. The journal’s broader standards are described in its Publication Ethics & Publication Malpractice Statement and Post-Publication and Accountability Policy.

3. Separation from Published Content

If AJIST introduces advertising in the future, advertisements will be clearly distinguishable from scholarly and editorial content. Advertising will not be formatted, positioned, or described in a way that could reasonably mislead readers into believing that AJIST, its editors, reviewers, Editorial Board, or publisher endorses an advertised product, service, organisation, or claim.

4. Future Advertising Decisions

Before accepting any commercial advertising, AJIST will update this policy to state the categories of advertising that may be considered, who is responsible for advertising acceptance decisions, applicable placement rules, and whether any online advertising is contextual, behaviourally targeted, or displayed independently of reader behaviour. Advertising administration and editorial decision-making will remain separate.

This approach is consistent with recognised transparency principles for scholarly publishing. For external good-practice guidance, see the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing (DOAJ/COPE/OASPA/WAME) and the COPE Ethics Toolkit for a Successful Editorial Office.

5. Conflicts of Interest

Any actual, potential, or perceived conflict of interest arising from an advertising or promotional relationship will be managed so that editorial independence, peer-review integrity, and the credibility of published content are protected. Editors and reviewers will not be instructed or pressured to make editorial decisions on the basis of advertising relationships or commercial revenue.

6. Relationship to Revenue and Direct Marketing

AJIST discloses its publishing income and financial-support arrangements separately in the Revenue Sources Statement. Because the journal does not currently carry commercial advertising, advertising is not currently relied upon as a source of editorial or publishing revenue. Promotional communications and manuscript solicitation are governed separately by the Direct Marketing Policy.

7. Privacy and Behavioural Targeting

AJIST does not currently use advertiser-directed behavioural targeting. If future advertising involves cookies, tracking technologies, audience segmentation, or third-party advertising services, the journal will update this Advertising Policy and its Privacy Policy before implementation so that users are informed about the relevant data practices.

8. Contact

Questions about the AJIST Advertising Policy may be directed to the journal’s editorial office. Additional contact information is available on the AJIST Contact page.
